Recognized as one of the leading national experts in funding multi-year community-based economic development programs through major fundraising campaigns, Mark Bergethon brings extensive private and nonprofit sector experience to his role as Principal of Convergent Nonprofit Solutions. Over the course of his career Mark has been a successful attorney, author, entrepreneur, fundraising consultant, and business executive.
Mark previously served as Chief Executive Officer of Sage Fundraising Solutions, a national nonprofit consulting firm specializing in funding economic development programs for chambers of commerce and economic development corporations.
Summary of Experience
- Managed and consulted on fundraising campaigns for a broad array of nonprofit organizations including schools, technical/community colleges, museums, fine arts centers, hospitals, Boy Scout councils, sustainability education organizations, community development corporations, senior service centers, religious service organizations, historic preservation trusts, theatres, community foundations, community centers, chambers of commerce, and economic development councils.
- Directed and provided oversight for more than 60 feasibility studies and major fundraising campaigns for organizations nationwide.
- Specializes in transitioning membership-based nonprofits into investment-based nonprofits, forging public/private partnerships, forming and capitalizing new economic development organizations, and establishing regional economic development and marketing collaborations.
- Authored two published books, as well as numerous articles on fundraising and other nonprofit concerns.
- Earned a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from Emory University and a law degree from the University of Georgia, School of Law. Mark is a member of the bar in both Georgia and Florida.
