Up to 50% of domestic violence survivors report that they delayed leaving their abuser out of concern for their pet(s). Is your organization prepared to offer these survivors the safe shelter they and their families need? In this webinar series, we will walk you through the process of establishing a pet friendly housing from start to finish, including the program options available, how to implement the program that’s right for you, securing the start-up funding needed to launch your program, and even securing the long-term funding needed to keep families together beyond the shelter.
Sheltering Animals & Families Together (SAF-T)™ is a life-saving global initiative working with domestic violence shelters to implement on-site pet housing. With over 125 SAF-T shelters in 40 states and 5 countries, SAF-T allows families to leave an abusive home sooner if allowed to bring their pet with them and prevents families from being lured back to the home to protect their pet. This webinar will discuss how to implement a SAF-T Program in your domestic violence shelter and discuss housing options, handling allergies and fear of animals, community engagement, important partnerships, and legal issues, as well as share SAF-T shelters success stories.
This webinar will focus on how to secure the initial funding needed to create pet friendly housing. We will review various opportunities available through RedRover’s Safe Housing grants plus provide some additional resources for funding. Additionally, we will discuss the importance of working with the community when creating and sustaining a pet friendly housing program.
Creating a pet-friendly housing program for domestic violence survivors is not enough. You must have funding in place for ongoing operational expenses and continuity of care. In this session, we’ll discuss the various costs associated with maintaining pet-friendly housing programs, opportunities to attract new donors, and how to ensure your established donor base stays engaged throughout the entire implementation process.
