“Midway through an hours-long line of people, Dery became the 20,000th person aided by Orlando-based nonprofit IDignity, which helps people who have lost their legal identification — or never had it in the first place — get their birth certificate, Social Security card, driver’s license or state ID.
On average, it takes about four hours of staff and volunteer time and $250 in expenses for the agency to help each client. And though the charity has won national awards for its work, it still struggles for money.”
