RALEIGH, NC — After five consecutive funding campaigns, the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce recognized it was time to recalibrate. With rapid regional growth and rising expectations, the Chamber set out to build a stronger, more future-ready economic development strategy. That meant restructuring its multi-year investment model and increasing overall investor commitment. To lead this effort, the Chamber partnered with Convergent Nonprofit Solutions to manage a feasibility study and guide the EDGE6 campaign.

Raleigh’s economic performance created an unintended funding challenge. Many long-time investors believed that strong growth would continue without additional support. This expectation created pressure to maintain existing funding levels rather than grow them. To shift that mindset, the Chamber needed a structured case for expanded investment that emphasized strategy, not momentum.

Convergent’s model focused on clear outcomes tied to intentional action. Rather than asking for support based on past success, the EDGE6 campaign asked investors to fund the next phase of growth. By making the return on investment visible and measurable, the campaign moved funding conversations out of the status quo.

High-visibility leaders made early, public commitments. These investments reinforced the need to strengthen the Chamber’s capacity and helped accelerate broader buy-in across sectors.

EDGE6 secured $7.25 million in five-year pledges and added 19 new investors who contributed over $900,000 in new funding. Beyond meeting the goal, the campaign created a more engaged investor base and opened the door to further growth.

EDGE6 helped reset expectations for how the business community supports economic development in Raleigh. With a more diverse investor base and more substantial tiered commitments, the Chamber is better positioned to lead on issues that shape the region’s future competitiveness.
